Home / Kids' Cove / Jesus Enters Jerusalem
Jesus, walking ahead of his disciples, started the climb up to
Jerusalem. And it happened that when he came close to Bethpage and
Bethany, at the hill called the Mount of Olives, he sent two of his
disciples on ahead, saying:
"Go into the village next by. As you enter it you shall find a colt
tied, on which no one has ever ridden. Untie him and bring him here.
"And if any man should ask you, 'Why do you untie him?' you shall say to him, 'Because the Lord needs him.' "
All this was done, to fulfill the saying of the prophet, which says:
"Tell the daughter of Zion,
'Look, your King comes to you,
Meek, and sitting upon an ass,
And a colt, the foal of an ass.' "
And the disciples who had been sent went their way, and found it just as he had told it to them.
As they were untying the colt, the owners of it said to them, "Why are you untying the colt?"
And they said, "The Lord needs him."
They brought him to Jesus, and they laid their robes upon the colt, and they set Jesus upon them. And as he went along, they spread their cloaks on the road.
And the crowds that had come to the festival, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried:
"Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel, who comes in the name of the Lord!"
And when he came near, and reached the slope of the Mount of Olive, the whole crowd of the discipes began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty deeds that they had seen, saying:
"Blessed is the King that comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest!"
Some Pharisees who were in the crowd said, "Master, rebuke your desciples."
And he answered and said to them, "I tell you that if these people should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."
